Tokyo Attractions to Book in Advance: 10 Places, Official Prices and When Sales Open

Short answer first: of the Tokyo attractions to book in advance, three leave you no choice at all. The Ghibli Museum admits only visitors with an advance reservation, teamLab Planets sells no tickets on site, and Sanrio Puroland requires both a visit reservation and a passport. Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea sell date-fixed tickets exactly two months ahead, and the official site warns that sales can stop once a day's limit is reached. Everything else can be bought at the door — but costs more there, or the slot you want may already be gone.

This page gathers 10 places from each one's official site, read on 12 October 2026: the adult price, the day and hour sales open, whether you can buy on the day, and how far it is from the station. It then works out, for a mid-January 2027 trip, which day you need to buy each one. What this page is not: a ranking. The 10 are grouped by part of the city, not ordered by which is better, and we do not sell tickets.

Which Tokyo attractions really need booking ahead, and how we chose these 10

Our rule: the attraction's own official page has to say at least one of three things. One, the ticket fixes a date or entry time. Two, no tickets are sold on site, or buying on site costs more. Three, sales open on a published date, or have sold out on every day before. We opened every official page on 12 October 2026, and they are all linked at the foot of this article.

Prices here are the adult prices those pages displayed on the day we checked. Several use date-based pricing — Disney, teamLab and Sanrio Puroland among them — so the figures tell you the size of the bill, not the price on your day. We show no ticket reseller's prices, and nobody paid for a place on this list.

The list is grouped by zone so you can plan days around it. Tokyo Bay has both Disney parks and teamLab Planets. Central Tokyo has teamLab Borderless and Shibuya Sky. The east side along the Sumida River has Tokyo Skytree and the Ryogoku sumo hall. The west and the outer suburbs have the Ghibli Museum, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo and Sanrio Puroland.

How far ahead do Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea tickets go on sale, and what do they cost

Tokyo Disney Resort's official page says tickets go on sale every day at 2:00 p.m. Japan time for admission on the same date two months later — that is 12:00 noon in Thailand. If the purchase month has no such date, for example the 31st, sales open on the 1st of the following month instead. Each ticket type can be suspended without notice once the day's sales limit is reached.

The 1-Day Passport fixes both the date and the park. Adults, 18 and over, start at 8,900 yen; juniors aged 12 to 17 start at 7,400 yen; children aged 4 to 11 start at 5,300 yen; children 3 and under enter free. The real price depends on the day. Tokyo Disneyland's price calendar, opened on 12 October 2026, showed most December 2026 weekdays at 10,900 yen, Saturdays at 12,400 yen, and 24 to 31 December at 11,900 to 12,400 yen. January 2027 ran from 8,900 to 11,900 yen, and DisneySea showed the same price on every day of that month.

Both parks use Maihama Station on the JR Keiyo and Musashino lines, which the official page puts about 15 minutes by train from Tokyo Station. That is why Ginza and Tokyo Station is one of the three stay areas at the end of this article.

Can you buy teamLab Planets or teamLab Borderless tickets at the door

teamLab Planets in Toyosu sells nothing on site — the official page says plainly that there are no tickets at the entrance or ticket machines. Tickets fix an entry time. The adult price, 18 and over, showed 3,800 yen; junior high and high school students 2,800 yen; children aged 4 to 12 1,500 yen; and it runs on dynamic pricing. Tickets bought from the official store can be changed up to 3 times, no later than 2 hours before the entry time. Open 8:00 to 22:00, closing at 20:00 on 31 December; closed all day on 5 November and 3 December 2026; last entry one hour before closing. It is a 1-minute walk from the north exit of Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome line.

teamLab Borderless at Azabudai Hills does sell on site, but for 200 yen more. Tickets fix an entry time. Adults showed 3,400 yen, ages 13 to 17 2,800 yen, ages 4 to 12 1,500 yen, and adult tickets are on dynamic pricing too. Open 8:30 to 21:00, with some days closing at a different time, which the official page lists. It is a 2-minute walk from Exit 5 of Kamiyacho Station on the Hibiya line.

Shibuya Sky and Tokyo Skytree: how much more does it cost on the day

Shibuya Sky sells adult tickets online at 2,700 yen for entry before 15:00 and 3,400 yen for entry from 15:00. At the counter on the day they are 3,000 and 3,700 yen — 300 yen more per ticket. The official page says sales run no more than two weeks ahead, that when adult tickets sell out online the counter is sold out too, and that child tickets, including 12-year-old primary pupils, are sold only at the counter on the day, at 1,200 yen. Preschoolers up to 6 enter free. One more thing worth knowing: arriving later than the entry time on your ticket can mean being refused entry.

At Tokyo Skytree, the Tembo Deck ticket for Floor 350 starts at 1,800 yen for adults aged 15 and over and 900 yen for children aged 6 to 14, and the combo ticket for Floors 350 and 450 starts at 3,000 yen. The official page adds a 500-yen service fee per ticket if you buy at the 4th-floor counter or a ticket machine. The nearest stations are Tokyo Skytree Station on the Tobu line and Oshiage Station on the Hanzomon line; from Asakusa Station it is about a 15-minute walk.

When do Ghibli Museum tickets go on sale, and how do you get there

The Ghibli Museum, Mitaka admits only visitors holding an advance reservation, and the ticket fixes both the date and the entry time. The official page gives two channels for overseas visitors. LAWSON TICKET online opens on the 10th of every month at 10:00 Japan time — 8:00 in Thailand — for entry dates in the following month. JTB for overseas customers opens on the 1st of the month for entry three months later.

Adults, 19 and over, pay 1,000 yen; ages 13 to 18 700 yen; ages 7 to 12 400 yen; ages 4 to 6 100 yen. It opens 10:00 to 18:00. To get there, take the JR Chuo line from Shinjuku to Mitaka, about 20 minutes, then walk 15 minutes from the south exit or take the community bus that runs every 15 minutes during opening hours, 230 yen for adults.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo and Sanrio Puroland: do you need to book first

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo does have an on-site ticket office, but its official page recommends booking ahead because your preferred date and time may sell out. Adults start at 6,600 yen, juniors at 5,500 yen, children at 4,000 yen, and prices change through the year. It is a 2-minute walk from Toshimaen Station: 17 minutes direct on the Seibu Ikebukuro line from Ikebukuro, or 20 minutes direct on the Toei Oedo line from Shinjuku.

Sanrio Puroland states that entry needs both a visit reservation and a passport. Passport prices change by day; the calendar we opened on 12 October 2026 showed adult full-day passports from 12 to 16 October 2026 at 4,300 to 5,900 yen, and opening hours vary by day as well. The station is Tama-Center on the Keio and Odakyu lines, which the official page puts about 30 minutes from Shinjuku by Keio limited express.

When do tickets for the January 2027 sumo tournament in Ryogoku go on sale

The January 2027 Grand Sumo Tournament runs at the Kokugikan in Ryogoku from 10 to 24 January 2027. The Japan Sumo Association's official schedule says advance tickets go on sale on 5 December 2026, and when we opened the association's home page on 12 October 2026, the November tournament in Fukuoka showed as sold out on all dates.

Approximate prices from the association's How to Buy page: Chair Seat C 3,500 yen on weekdays and 4,000 yen on weekends and holidays; Chair Seat B 5,000 and 5,500 yen; and a four-person floor box, Box Seat B, 40,000 to 42,000 yen per box. The official page notes that prices may vary by venue.

Visiting on 15 January 2027: which day do you need to buy each ticket

We took the sale dates the official pages publish and counted back from a visit on Friday 15 January 2027, as a worked example in the table below. Times in the right-hand column are Thai time, two hours behind Japan. The one thing to remember: Disney opens one day at a time, while the Ghibli Museum opens a whole month at once on a single day.

Where an official page does not say how far ahead sales open, we do not guess. The table says so, and you should open that place's own calendar before planning around it.

When to go to Tokyo: rain and room prices by month from our own data

Admission prices barely move by month; room prices move a lot. On 9 October 2026 we priced the same 233 stays within 8 km of the Ginza / Tokyo Station circle, two adults in one room, on Tuesday nights across several months. Against Tuesday 12 January 2027: February 1.01x, December 1.09x, March 1.12x, November 1.29x and April, in blossom season, 1.55x. Every figure pairs a hotel with itself across both nights.

Set beside ten-year ERA5 rainfall, January is both the cheapest month in the set and the driest, at 51 mm and 5 rain days, with a mean daily low of 0°C as the trade-off — and it is also sumo month. April is half as expensive again for rooms and carries 135 mm. The full breakdown, including how much more Saturdays cost than Tuesdays, is in our Tokyo five-day cost article.

Five things to get right before you buy

These five come from conditions the official pages state themselves, not general advice.

  • Set your clock to Japan time, two hours ahead of Thailand. Disney opens sales at 14:00 Japan time, which is 12:00 in Thailand, and the Ghibli Museum on LAWSON TICKET at 10:00 Japan time, which is 8:00 in Thailand.
  • Check the price for your actual date before paying. Disney, teamLab and Sanrio Puroland all price by day.
  • Leave travel time for timed tickets. Shibuya Sky says arriving after the time on your ticket may mean being refused entry.
  • Shibuya Sky does not allow bags, selfie sticks or hats on the rooftop; they go in the lockers on the 46th floor first.
  • Buy online before you go where you can. Tokyo Skytree adds 500 yen per ticket at the counter or machines, teamLab Borderless adds 200 yen, and Shibuya Sky costs 300 yen more.

What this page is not

This page does not sell tickets, does not rank which place is better value, and cannot promise your date still has tickets. Every price is what the official page showed on 12 October 2026 and can change without notice — always go by the official page on the day you buy.

What we do not have, we leave out. The pages we read did not say how far ahead Tokyo Skytree, teamLab, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo or Sanrio Puroland open sales. We also left out cafés and restaurants that need a booking, because the official site of the one we tried would not open on the day we checked.

Where to stay to reach these easily: three areas, one per ticket zone

These three areas follow the routes the attractions' own official pages give. Asakusa is close to Skytree and Ryogoku, Ginza and Tokyo Station sit on the way to Disney, and Ikebukuro has a direct train to Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo. Shinjuku is closest to the Ghibli Museum route, but on the night we pulled the feed only 2 stays there passed our bar, so it has no card.

Asakusa

Best for · Skytree, sumo · the most choice

Skytree's official page puts it about a 15-minute walk from Asakusa Station. Inside the 1.5 km Asakusa circle, 34 stays in our search results were still bookable for 12 Jan 2027 and 12 passed our bar — the most of the three areas. The cards below skip stays we already used in our Tokyo five-day cost article, so the two pages do not repeat. The downside: Disney or the west side means changing trains.

Ginza / Tokyo Station

Best for · Disney, teamLab · higher budget

Disney's official page puts Maihama Station about 15 minutes by train from Tokyo Station. Inside the 1.8 km circle, 24 stays were still bookable for 12 Jan 2027 and 6 passed our bar. The downside: half of those six are 5-star, so we mixed the classes — one 5-star and two at 3 to 3.5 stars.

Ikebukuro

Best for · Warner Bros. Studio Tour · west side

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo official page gives 17 minutes direct on the Seibu Ikebukuro line from Ikebukuro to Toshimaen, no change. Inside the 1.7 km circle, 21 stays were still bookable for 12 Jan 2027 and 6 passed our bar. The downside: it is far from Tokyo Bay, so Disney takes longer than from the other two areas.

Names, star class, scores, review counts and photos come from the price feed rooozt itself runs, pulled on 12 October 2026 for Tuesday 12 to 13 January 2027, two adults in one room. The bar: a review score of 8.5 or more from at least 500 reviews, inside the area circle, and still priced for that night. We picked three per area across different star classes, using the highest-scoring stay within each class chosen, ordered from most stars to fewest. Nobody paid to be listed. No prices are shown because they change hourly. Distances are straight lines from the feed's coordinates to the circle centre, not walking distances. No Accor-group hotel is in this set.

Frequently asked questions

Which Tokyo attractions sell no tickets at the door at all
From the official pages we read on 12 October 2026: the Ghibli Museum, which admits advance reservations only; teamLab Planets, which says it sells no tickets on site; and Sanrio Puroland, which requires a visit reservation. The others sell on the day, some for more — Skytree adds 500 yen, and Shibuya Sky costs 300 yen more.
How far ahead can you buy Tokyo Disney tickets
Exactly two months. The official page says sales open every day at 14:00 Japan time, 12:00 in Thailand, for the same date two months later — a visit on 15 January 2027 goes on sale on 15 November 2026 — and tickets can be suspended once a day's limit is reached.
When do Ghibli Museum tickets go on sale
On LAWSON TICKET, on the 10th of every month at 10:00 Japan time, 8:00 in Thailand, for entry in the following month. Through JTB for overseas customers, on the 1st of the month for entry three months later. Adults pay 1,000 yen.
How far ahead can you book Shibuya Sky
Up to two weeks. Adults pay 2,700 yen online for entry before 15:00 and 3,400 yen from 15:00; the counter charges 300 yen more, and when online tickets sell out the counter is sold out too. Child tickets are sold only at the counter on the day.
When should you buy tickets for sumo in Tokyo in January 2027
The January 2027 tournament runs at the Kokugikan in Ryogoku from 10 to 24 January 2027, and advance tickets go on sale on 5 December 2026 per the official schedule. The November tournament in Fukuoka already showed sold out on all dates when we checked on 12 October 2026.

Where the numbers come from: Every price, opening hour and sale date in this article was read from each attraction's official page on 12 October 2026 and is what that page displayed on the day; several price by date, so go by the official page on the day you buy. Rain, rain days and temperatures are 2016–2025 monthly means from the ERA5 dataset via Open-Meteo at Tokyo's coordinate — a historical statistic, not a forecast. The monthly room ratios come from the live price feed rooozt itself runs, pulled on 9 October 2026 for two adults in one room, across the same 233 stays within 8 km of the Ginza / Tokyo Station circle; each is the median of per-hotel ratios across the two nights. The stays on the cards come from the same feed, pulled on 12 October 2026 for the night of 12 to 13 January 2027.

Still need a room, a ride or a flight?

Date-fixed admission, a room for the same night and the ride in from the airport are the three things you can lock before you fly. Prices on this page were checked on 12 October 2026; check your own date at the destination page again.
